Hi Everyone,

This weekend the Pirouettes will host the Synchronized Swimming Southern Zone Championships at North Lake beginning Friday March 5th thru Sunday March 7th.
The pool will be closed to all other programs.

As such, all practices this Friday and Saturday for both Youth and Masters are CANCELED!

Dear Irving Swimmer families:

It's Swim-a-Thon time! Our Swim-a-Thon is set for Friday, March 26. Start getting your pledges/donations now and use Spring Break time to talk to out-of-town family and friends to contribute!

Attached are two documents. One is a letter containing more information and the other is a document to let us know if you plan to participate. You may also email our Swim-a-Thon coordinator, Diane Stumpf at dkstumpf@verizon.net to let her know if your swimmers will participate.

After Diane has received your yes/no answer, she will place all the Swim-a-Thon information and pledge packet in your Family File in the blue bucket at North Lake pool. Pick it up as soon as possible to get started!

POOL CLOSURES AND PRACTICES
Also, please remember that there will be no practice on Friday, March 5 or Saturday, March 6 due to pool closure.

B/C CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
B/C Championship meet is at The Colony this weekend. Wish all our B/C'ers good luck and fast swimming!
Our team (Division 2) warms up Friday 5:15pm, Saturday 8:00am and Sunday 7:30am.
Please be at the pool 15 minutes before warmups begin each day.


We look forward to great participation in the Swim-a-Thon, our biggest fundraising effort of the year!

Dear Irving Swimmers families:

Attached is the February edition of Lane Lines, the Irving Swimmers newsletter. Please print it out for your swimmer to read and keep. Make sure they see the Coaches' comments on page 1! Irving Swimmers tries to conserve paper and money by sending the newsletter via email and on the website only.

You will find quite a bit of new information in the newsletter this month, but I would also like to reiterate some things. Details on each of these items are in the newsletter.


1. Swim-A-Thon date has been set for Friday, March 26, 2010.

2. We are in need of a Fundraising Committe Chairman.

3. Aaron Peirsol Day with the Stars is Saturday, march 20, 2010. More information will arrive via email soon.

4. New Spirit Wear and Equipment order forms will be available on our website and at the pool.

5. If you do not plan to swim with Irving Swimmers during the summer, you must give a 30 day notice to avoid charges.

6. There will be NO swim practice for the Youth teams during Spring Break (March 13-21, 2010)

7. Updated Contact List for everyone currently holding positions with Irving Swimmers.


ALSO

High School Swimmers: Now that the High School swim season is over, swimmers are welcomed back into the fold full-time. The half-price arrangement for these swimmers does not apply in the high school off-season. If you do not plan to return for the off-season, please let Renata Keto know before March 1, 2010 so that you can avoid charges.

Pool Closures: North Lake pool has published the dates of various pool closings for the next 8 weeks. They are as follows:



Friday March 5th: closed for PTX South Zones, no programs in.
Saturday March 6th: Closed for Zones, no programs in.

Friday March 12th: closed, no programs after 11:00 AM.
Sat. March 13, Sun. March 14, Mon. March 15: closed, no programs in.

Friday March 19: closed, no programs in.

Fri. March 26: IS Swim-a-Thon, no programs in after 4:20 PM. (THAT'S US!)

Fri. March 27: tentative IISD Water Polo date

Fri. April 2, Sat. April 3, Sun. April 4: closed, no programs in.

NEWSLETTER
The January edition of the IS "Lane Lines" newsletter will be hitting your email box soon. It will also be posted on the Irving Swimmers website. Lots of great stuff this month!

FUNDRAISING RESULTS
Just a little update on our recent fundraising efforts... our Hot Chocolate fundraiser for the City of Irving netted the team $237.07 and the Candle Fundraiser raised $1415.70. Our kids have done a fabulous job in raising funds for our away meets!

CANDLE FUNDRAISER DRAWING
The results are in! The drawing for the fundraiser participants was held at the January 14 board meeting. Thomas Alm has won an ice-cream visit with Coach Tom and Connor Owens has won a Team Parka (as soon as they are available!). Congratulations guys!

SPIRIT WEAR/EQUIPMENT
New Spirit Wear and Equipment order forms will be available soon. Coach Britt is our coordinator for the orders (martybritt@verizon.net). Read the form carefully when you order and be sure to use the fins and hand paddles in the IS cage to gauge what size your child needs. Our team suit will be changing from the blue "Sparkler" suit to a solid black suit. These look absolutely fabulous with both our pink and blue swim caps. Don't rush out and buy one if your current suit still fits. Just wait until it is outgrown or worn out. Have you seen those new sweatshirts?! Coming soon: Irving Swimmers parkas!

BOARD MEETINGS
IS Board meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month at 5:00pm (during swim practice) at the North Lake College cafeteria. Parents are always welcome to sit in on these meetings. We hope to have Committee Chairman join us occasionally so that everyone can stay up to date on current events with the team.

MEET THE NEW CHAIRMAN
We have a new Corporate Sponsor committee chairman, Erin Nulf. Erin has two kids swimming with IS and they are new to the team this year. Erin will be looking for all theh elp she can get for corporate sponsorship and donations for our team. If you have any contacts you think she may use, contact her at emnulf@hotmail.com.

SWIM-A-THON
We will soon be looking for a committes chairman for our annual Swim-a-Thon. This is a one-day event held at North Lake pool where the kids raise funds for the team to use toward out-of-town meets and new equipment. The position involves overseeing the entire event and delegating jobs such as manning the event, getting prize donations, snacks for after the event and other positions. If you are interested in participating, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Chris Alm at c.alm@tx.rr.com. You will be hearing from Chris more in the future as events come up and volunteers are needed.

Coach Tom will send out emails on each of these meets for RSVPs. Once you agree to participate in a swim meet, you are responsible for the event charges.

Dear IS Parents:

Here’s an update on Irving Swimmers goings-on!

1. According to DART, there will be construction for the future light rail and roadway realignment starting mid-January at the entrance of MacArthur Blvd. This entrance will be closed between 11pm and 5am daily. Even though there will not be active construction during our commute to North Lake pool, there will steel plates covering holes in the road. Please be careful in the area.

2. The next IS Board meeting will be held at the North Lake College cafeteria on Thursday, January 14 from 5pm to 6:30p (during regular practice). If you would like any issues addressed at this meeting, please email me.

3. We have a new position within Irving Swimmers called the Volunteer Coordinator. Chris Alm has graciously agreed to fill it. She will be our point person to keep track of each family’s volunteer hours served and will be responsible for securing volunteers for all our events. Thanks to Chris for taking on this responsibility.

4. Upcoming meets that Irving Swimmers will be attending include:
“BB” meet on January 8-10 (meet entries are closed as of Dec 29)
“A” meet on January 15-17 (meet entry deadline is January 5)
“B/C” meet on January 24 (meet entry deadline is January 10)

5. The new Irving Swimmer Parent Board has been elected and began serving on January 1, 2010.
